It feels like ages since I had the pleasure of participating in the LA Times Festival of Books! The event was a whirlwind of activity, and while I was eager to introduce readers to “The Mysterious Affair at the Met,” I was pleasantly surprised by the consistent interest in my earlier novels, particularly “Priscilla Engaging in the Game of Politics.” It seems Priscilla continues to captivate readers, and I couldn’t be more delighted!

On a separate note, I recently embarked on an exciting adventure to the United Arab Emirates, spending the majority of my time in the vibrant city of Dubai. I was fortunate to have the company of two dear friends and esteemed colleagues. Virginia Phiri, a celebrated Zimbabwean author, graced our journey with her presence. You’ll easily spot her in the photos – she’s the tall one with the infectious smile.
Joining us was the talented Elinettie Chabwera, a fellow author and a remarkably gifted artist from Malawi. Ellie, the shortest of our trio, possesses an undeniable artistic flair. Her handcrafted jewelry is simply breathtaking! Ellie’s husband, Everest, an airline pilot instructor based in Dubai, graciously hosted us during our stay.
While in the UAE, we also made a point to visit the Sharjah International Festival of Books. It was an enlightening experience, though I learned that the festival primarily focuses on children’s literature and bestsellers.
Although we explored various facets of the UAE, the photos I’m sharing today capture our time at the awe-inspiring Dubai Mall. The sheer scale of the aquarium, the mesmerizing dancing fountains, and the sight of people gracefully gliding on the ice rink left me utterly speechless.
And of course, no trip to the UAE would be complete without witnessing the majestic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest structure! It’s a truly humbling experience to stand in its shadow.
My trip to the UAE was an unforgettable experience. The country boasts a remarkable blend of modern marvels and ancient traditions, a captivating tapestry rarely showcased by mainstream media. I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to this extraordinary nation.
