Feb 25, 2024 | Interview

Dr. M.J. Sims-Maddox, author of “The Mysterious Affair at the Met,” shares with This Week In America host the latest installment in her “Priscilla” series.

The interview starts with Dr. Sims-Maddox explaining her inspiration for the novel series. She recounts a recurring dream about a conversation with her father, who passed away from colon cancer. In the dream, her father encouraged her to live a life that pleases herself. This dream inspired her to write her first novel, which she wrote on legal pads.

Dr. Sims-Maddox discusses her writing process. She says she is not fond of creative writing and does not have a background in the humanities. She describes herself as “old school” and prefers to write with a pen on legal pads. She carries these legal pads with her wherever she goes and writes constantly.

The host, Rick Bratton, asks Dr. Sims-Maddox about her character, Priscilla. Dr. Sims-Maddox reveals that the first novel in the series is autobiographical. She based the character of Priscilla on herself. She acknowledges that Priscilla has grown and matured throughout the series.

Dr. Sims-Maddox also talks about her handbook for aspiring authors, which includes advice on how to publish a book. The interview concludes with Dr. Sims-Maddox discussing her upcoming novel, the sequel to “The Mysterious Affair at the Met”.
