About M.J. Simms-Maddox

Award Winning Author, Doctor of Philosophy & Professor Emeritus

Independent author M. J. Simms-Maddox has been writing as far back as she can remember. When she penned her first novel, Priscilla Engaging in the Game of Politics, she had no idea it would become a trilogy, let alone an extended series. The novel series of mysteries and thrillers uniquely portrays a modern-day self-assured professional Black woman protagonist.

Meanwhile, after writing several book-length manuscripts and publishing four novels—one of which was recognized in the first-place category in an international book contest—and after speaking about becoming an indie book author at professional development sessions that empower women to improve their writing skills with the ultimate goal of publishing—she was encouraged to share advice about her writing and publishing experiences. So she published A Handbook for Emerging and Seasoned Authors: An Insider’s Step-by-Step Approach to Becoming a Successful Indie Book Author and Publisher.

M. J. Simms-Maddox earned her Ph.D. in political science from The Ohio State University. She has served as a legislative aide in the Ohio Senate, owned and operated a public relations agency, and is a retired tenured professor of political science. Indeed, most plots in “The Priscilla Series” are political.

Simms-Maddox is affiliated with the African Literature Association, the Chanticleer Authors’ Conference, the North Carolina Writers’ Network, and the Surrey International Writers’ Conference.
